Maike Meijer and Gijs Scholten van Aschat in the short film 'DIENSTMEID #2' by Roxanne Stam. The film – with a micro budget – is being shot at ITA, in the former Stadsschouwburg of Amsterdam. A unique opportunity for the debuting director, now that theaters must remain closed during the pandemic. The film is about Nora, who plays a supporting role in a theatrical production by a prestigious company. When she is ridiculed by lead actor Peter for the umpteenth time, she decides to take matters into her own hands... It is an ode to the woman who stands up for herself. About toxic masculinity, workplace intimidation, and aging. Director and screenwriter Kurt Platvoet wrote the (feminist) script together with director Roxanne Stam. Roxanne Stam previously worked as a directing assistant with filmmakers such as Diederik van Rooijen (Penoza, Heirs of the Night), Theu Boermans, and Shariff Korver (Fenix, Zwarte Tulp). When she was about to submit her film plan, she read 'Wen er maar aan' by Maike Meijer (Toren C) and knew: this is the perfect Nora. The book, which was recently published, is a true bestseller and is about the unemployed actress M., who is going through menopause. The production is part of the project De Ontmoeting, a platform that offers new filmmakers the opportunity to make their first film. Eight other directors have been selected for the project from a total of nearly one hundred submissions. They are being mentored by various major art house cinemas or broadcasters. This film is being produced by ONTHEROX in collaboration with broadcaster AVROTROS. The broadcaster is supporting the project with €5,000 on the condition that at least another €5,000 is crowdfunded. FILMMAKING IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT De Ontmoeting has existed since 2015 and receives support from the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts and the Cultural Fund for Audiovisual Producers.
