Master class 'Scenario'
“It happens to very few Dutch screenwriters: having your name on the title roll of two major book adaptations within one year. Hugo Heinen (1944) wrote the screenplay for both *Knielen op een bed violen* and *Tonio*, two adaptations of beloved novels.” – Plot Magazine, February 2016
Cinesud is therefore proud to organize a two-day, personal screenwriting masterclass on April 9 and 10, led by none other than the aforementioned Hugo Heinen (Nova Zembla, Oud Geld). With the Limburg Film Fund deadline approaching (May 2), eight filmmakers will have the chance to dot the i's and cross the t's and receive personal, tailor-made feedback, tips, and tricks from one of the Netherlands' greatest screenwriters! Naturally, the course is also open to anyone who does not intend to submit an application to the Limburg Film Fund.
Masterclass content
Over the course of two days, Hugo will work intensively based on the work of eight students. “By reading each other’s work and discussing it together, we can delve deep into the subject matter, and the necessary theory comes up naturally. Everyone learns from each other,” says the enthusiastic guest lecturer.
Over the two days, skills needed for developing and writing a screenplay are trained, such as building stories and choosing characters, but practical matters are also discussed, such as the requirements of the Netherlands Film Fund and selecting (the right) producers.
Each course participant submits a three-page synopsis in advance, in which he or she has elaborated on an idea for a (short) film, documentary, or drama series. This synopsis is then distributed among all participants and the guest lecturer so that everyone can prepare for the course days.
During the course days, your plan receives feedback from everyone and is supplemented with the necessary theory, practical examples, and comments, tips, and tricks from Hugo. This allows you to further develop your plan and take it to a higher 'level'. Hugo: “Receiving feedback and scrutinizing each other about your plan is a good exercise, since you will also encounter this in reality (dramaturgs, producers, funds, etc.)”
In addition to discussing each other's work, there is also plenty of room during the masterclass for questions about film practice or working as a screenwriter.
